Roger Standen

“With hindsight it seems that I was destined to be an angler, because long before I ever held a rod I wanted to catch fish.”  This is the first line from Roger’s book “All Ways Fishing” and reflects that angling was his overriding passion all his life.  Plumbing was his main profession for most of his working life but even if he wasn’t angling for pleasure he would be writing about it and was published in national magazines as well as local papers.

During the 1970s and 1980s table tennis took over; he was a very accomplished player and became a two star coach.  Roger also wrote about table tennis and provided regular reports in the local papers up until the last few years.

Roger was also a very keen photographer and had pictures published in various publications.  He also enjoyed taking pictures of his family.

In 1997 Roger’s dream of making a living from fishing/writing came with the launch of The Freshwater Informer.

Roger was a jolly, extrovert man who was full of energy and was always busy.  He was well read and was passionate about the environment and conservation.  He will be missed by his family and all who knew him.
